I've been concerned about my belong expectation readers. This year there are 11 of them in my class. I try to meet with them at least 4 days a week in group and individually. Then the books we do in class go home to be read again. But I want to accelerate their learning. So I started meeting with each of them again in the afternoon. Surprise! They did not remember what we had done in the morning. After a few days of "2 a days" I've seen a difference in the rate of learning. It could be that knowing they will be asked to do a repeat reading in the afternoon that they are trying harder to retain what they learned or it could be that they need more one on one interaction. Whatever, I will keep doing this.
